There is no single correct answer as to which is best - you will see slightly different results based on whoever is doing the testing and the way they test. The IT Security Institute AV-Test.org website (see source) has released their latest comparison of 22 antivirus software packages for Q1 2011. This is just one series of tests from one lab but they rate Bitdefender Internet Security 2011 as the best, with Norton Internet Security 2011 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 also at the top. Norton and Kaspersky are both very good in not taking up too much computer resources. I can't vouch at all for BitDefender as it seems to be so rarely used or tested.
Some might have seen my other post about BullGuard. I have following question: What Antivirus is the one that provides good protection without.
Kaspersky and Norton in particular have very good ratings in other tests by different companies and are both well known. They are also very reasonably priced at about $25 for a 1 year 3 user license (if you buy on CD from a shop). Avast is the best free one for protection and low resource usage but is nowhere near the protection of the paid suites.
Norton is a resource hog. I repair install/repair computer hardware, network and software and Norton is nothing but a bloated resource hog. First thing I uninstall when restoring a computer, the trial is on most computers with McAfee on the rest. It's 2014, use Windows Security Essentials (Windows XP, Vista, 7) or Windows Defender (Windows 8) Unless you're visiting unsafe sights, downloading unknown files or opening an unknown installer or link then Windows native is all you need. If you are surfing the dark side then you'd better pay the money and go with one of the big security suites. Tell us some more. Upload in Progress.

HOW DARE YOU SAY AVG IS GOOD????? Bitdefender Free is very simple and barely shows up in task manager. I said 'good' as in acceptable. But I didn't say great. Just to be clear, I don't like it myself but others do.
It's also rated 2nd after Avast. So I can't go saying what I really think. Bitdefender might be good in terms of%, but it show down the system a lot!! Can a good Anti Virus be lite on resources, thay all say microsoft security essentials is very lite on resources, but it% is the lowest? Is that true? Can a good Anti Virus be lite on resources, thay all say microsoft security essentials is very lite on resources, but it% is the lowest? Is that true? Yes it can, I have tested different antivirus and the lightest of the most popular is Avast, followed by Avira, AVG not so light. Cloud Antivirus are probably the lightest but you need an acctive internet connection for them to work because the deffinitions database is at their website. But cons are inconvenient.
For example Panda Cloud says: No automatic scans, No extra filters for web browsing or email, Lacks advanced features. Avast System Requirements 128MB RAM I don't see CPU but should be consisent with 128MB RAM. When 128MB RAM was the standard, CPUs were probably around 512 to 1.0 Ghz Microsoft Security Essentials download Microsoft Security Essentials Minimum System Requirements For Windows XP, a PC with a CPU clock speed of 500 MHz or higher, and 256 MB RAM or higher. For Windows Vista and Windows 7, a PC with a CPU clock speed of 1.0 GHz or higher, and 1 GB RAM or higher. $39.99, i think I will pass that, so many to choose from, good or bad, just want the one with lite on resources. And because I'm a gamer, don't want the AV to slow things down, you know. Dude I could consider my self a power user as well.
Antivirus Software For Business
And I wouldn't be cheap or compromise when it comes to my protection. I recommend this based on its performance and protection. There is a trial. I suggest you give it a try. I worked for many years with all the top free and paid AV in a service environment. And WBR came up on top for the exact specs you requested in an AV.
In other words, extremely gamer friendly.
