Hello, I'm looking at buying the Homecast HT8000 PVR with 320GB HDD. The latest Firmware is Ver 1.04.8 I'm new at this so this my be a silly question – but do I need to go back and download all other firmware updates? Or is it assumed that Ver 1.04.8 encompases all other firmware updates? And they also have some other downloads available -USB driver and file transfer software -August 2008 Software upgrade again do they need to be installed additional to Ver 1.04.8 or are they included within? I know Homecast has a forum – but I'm not a member & thought would be just as easy to post here Thanks in advance Regards. Would look at alternatives.
Original unit lasted less than 12 months and went up in smoke (burnt out). Was replaced by Homecast with a new unit but not confident that it is 100% after about 4 months. Unit runs very hot even in standby mode and emits an audible hum.
Also try writing to Homecast to ask if things like hum are normal. All you get is silence. Not familiar with other brands but I would check them out. Apart from that it does the job, firmware upgrades are simple and seem to have fixed most issues but still get the odd freeze.
Add skip would be a great feature as skip button is variable based on length of recording.
